I didn’t plan on starting a company around EV charging. I just wanted to take some friends to Area 51 — and ended up stranded.
Well — almost stranded.
While planning a trip to Area 51 with some friends and their Rivians, I realized the only DC fast charger in a key stretch of Nevada was completely out of service. Not just temporarily — but frequently unreliable, slow when it worked at all, and totally unsupported. In fact, because of that, all of Highway 395 is a literal charging desert.
It got me thinking about how fragile and inconsistent EV infrastructure still is — especially in places that need it most. It actually brought me back to my time working in the hospitality industry, trying to bring EV charging to the properties I was working at. I had to constantly make the case to my General Managers who were skeptical — not because they didn’t care, but because they didn’t know how to make the numbers work, or what would happen if the chargers broke down — wasting valuable resources to fix them. Even when the interest was there, the uncertainty was enough to stall the idea every time.
That’s what inspired AmpIQ.
I wasn’t interested in starting another hardware company or joining the crowd of new charging networks. I wanted to solve the real problem I kept seeing — the gap between people who have great sites for EV charging and the support they need to actually get those sites built.
So that’s what we do.
AmpIQ works with property owners and businesses to bring great EV charging sites to life. That means identifying the right location, managing all the moving parts — from utilities to vendors — and sticking around to make sure the site performs long after it’s installed. It’s turnkey on purpose, because this transition only works if we make it easy for people to say yes.
